We believe it is important to care for sexuality
The Care for Sexuality Foundation (in Dutch: Zorg voor Seksualiteit) is a value-driven organization which focusses on increasing sexual health, by investing in safe relational and sexuality education. We share knowledge and expertise about sexuality. We develop methods and materials and we cooperate with other organizations in creating and implementing effective sexual health and relationship education. We work from a health-based perspective.
Our key values are Respect, Safety and Autonomy.
ABOUT CARE FOR SEXUALITY
Sexual Health and Relationship Education is about getting to know yourself, accepting yourself and being able to protect yourself – and the other. By making reliable information accessible we invest in a society which enables people to be sexually healthy and to engage in safe relationships.
We have more than twenty years of experience in talking about sexuality in a culture-sensitive way. We have developed methods for different schools (primary, secondary and high school) and trained a lot of professionals from education and health care. In Moldova we trained the care givers and teachers of a children’s day care center. In Iraq we worked on a project proposal for the Ministry of Foreign affairs, about how to invest in the health and well-being of Yezidi women.
Over the years we gained specific experience in making information about sexuality accessible for different groups of children and adults, all from a different cultural and religious background. Our value-driven and health-based way of working provides a structural and solid framework in our work. In working with children and developing material for primary schools, we involve parents and teachers in an effective and inclusive way.
How can we help you?
Looking for a culture sensitive way of talking about sexuality? Are you an NGO and searching for ways how to increase sexual health, but are there several cultural and religious aspects that need to be taken into account? Are you working with children, teenagers and parents and do you want to introduce a method for sexuality and relational education?
You can contact us via info@careforsexuality.org.
The Care for Sexuality Foundation is established by Arjet Borger. She is a Health Scientist and author of several books about sexuality. You can read more about her work on her personal website http://www.arjetborger.nl/english/.

Are you enthusiastic about our work and do you want to support us? Together we can work towards a society that supports and aids in growing sexual health and safe relationships.
Why are we looking for donors?
Supporting primary education. Following societal trends and developing a viewpoint on them. Coaching healthcare institutions and religious groups. Being visible, writing blogs and speaking to media. Starting new projects, like the information booklet and webinar series for parents and a republication (and update) of Veiligwijs.
We want to reach far more people than we do right now. With the help and support of people like you, we could.

ABOUT VEILIGWIJS
The Veiligwijs course is developed by Zorg voor Seksualiteit (Care for Sexuality Foundation), a non-profit with an ANBI-status (Dutch acronym for Public Benefit Organisation or PBO). It is developed from the belief that every human is to be respected and that everyone has the self esteem, knowledge and skills to make personal and safe choices when it comes to sexuality.
Veiligwijs is a course suitable for relational and sexual education in primary schools (public and private/ideological) that offer regular education. Veiligwijs offers a continuous learning path for grade 1 through 8. Children get reliable information about their bodies and their physical, emotional, social and sexual development. They learn more about safety in relationships (family relationships, friendships, crushes, romantic relationships) and online (e.g. sexting). They grow in self-esteem, practice their resilience (talking about boundaries, asking for help) and learn to respectfully handle differences in background, belief and sexuality.
Veiligwijs works from a value-driven perspective. Theoretical information and practical exercises are linked to the values of respect, love, care or safety. This way, children learn to think about the meaning of these values with regard to sexuality and relationship development
Goal
The main goal is to promote healthy relational and sexual education for children ages 4 through 12. To achieve this goal, children learn what the words relationships and sexuality include and to deal with themselves and others in a respectful way. In addition to that, children learn to be resilient, ask for help, communicate and guard their desires and boundaries and they learn how to make safe choices.
What are the starting points of VEILIGWIJS
- Every child is unique
- Sexuality is personal and vulnerable
- There is room for differences
- Respect for and listening to each other are central
- Safe relationship development is the basis for sexual health
- Veiligwijs serves as a framework
- No explicit imagery is used. This includes the (Dutch) tv-program’s Gewoon bloot (Simply naked) and Dokter Corrie.
- Openness is not a goal in itself. Communicating your boundaries through not sharing something (personal) is allowed – educational and valuable even!
